Blasphemous #1 (Greece) 1991. Editors: “Morbid”, “John”, “Stephan” and “Photis”
Received this fantastic early 90’s gem directly from the source (thanks for sharing Swamp beast!); a bit uneven in parts but the ambition is undeniable; pretty much a ‘who’s who’ of both black and death metal circa 90/91, from the demo reviews to the articles and interviews. Now out bound in book form from Fryktos! Features Abbhorrent, Transgressor, Blasphemy, Alastis, Desecrator, Sentenced, Atrocity, Baphomet, Beherit, Mortify, Darkthrone, Noktunral, Deadhead, Convulse, Deceased, Sigh, Entombed, Horrified, Septic Flesh, Messiah, Misanthrope, Mortuary Drape, Mystifier, Necromantia, Nocturnus, Septic Flesh, Pentagram (MEX), Phlegethon, Rotting Christ, Bolt Thrower, Necrofist, Sadus, Sargatanas, Sarcofago, Ripping Corpse, Satanas, Necrophobic, Sextrash, Vader, Varathron, Vital Remains, reviews and more….
Army of Darkness #1 (USA) 1993. Ed. ” Sikora Sławek” (Polish)
This is a pretty obscure relic from the early 90s Polish underground and its packed with pretty much (only) Polish bands–and its written in Polish. However, it does reflect how vibrant the scene was there at the time, and how much there is to dig up and explore if one has the inclination to do so. Interviews, features, adverts and reviews with Armagedon, Ghost, Azazel, Cenotaph, Carnage Records, Convent, Christ Agony, Cryptic Tales, Dark Opera, Abathor, Industry, Gothic, Neolithic, Graveland, Hypnosis, Parracide, Leviathan, Pagan Records, Magnus, Mordor, Mussorgski, Pascal, Prosecutor, Pestilent Angel, Xantotol, Mastomah, Sparagmos, Vader, Violent Dirge and more.
Hard Stuff #1 (Poland-US) Sept. 1994. Editor: “Mariusz Kmiolek”
A one-off, combined effort from Poland’s Thrash ’em All and US’s Loud Magazine. I am not sure if it ever got off the ground into a regular publication(?), but this short introductory issue from late in 1994 was still pretty cool, with some ads and pics I have not seen elsewhere, some reviews (demo and album), as well as a selection of interviews and features on Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Absu and Setenced. (thanks Pawel)
Balance of Terror #3 (Victoria, BC, Canada) 1991. Editor: “Trev Jarvis”
(UPDATED) With interviews/features/mentions on Impetigo, Inverted, Agothocles, Bolt Thrower, Impaled Nazarene, Dark Tranquility, Hexx, Nuclear Death, Funeral Oration, Putrid (pre- God Forsaken), Wench, Raped Ape, Eldritch Horror, Ringworm, Impaled Nazarene and Demilich (check out those very early pics), plus letters and reviews, a feature on the Ku Klux Klan’s history, Demi Moore (?), the Loch Ness Monster, Out From the Underground Zine, cool ads from Wild Rags, Itsen, Relapse and more and an editorial on “Rip Offs Killing the Scene.” A centerfold with Dutch band Eternal Nightmare, and a very young “Ultimate Incantation”-ish era Vader is featured on the cover (yet are not featured inside)…PDF up as well.
Thrash Em All #1.4 (Poland) 1992 (in Polish) Editor: “Mariusz Kmiolek”
Another issue of Thrash Em All from Poland (thanks again to Pawel). Features some really cool live/band shots I have not seen before, from the likes of Bolt Thrower, Samael and Nocturnus among others, as well as features/interviews/pics on Vader, Believer, Betrayer, Earache Records, Dead Head, Edge of Sanity, Dismember, Gorefest, Magnus, Nausea, Pan-Thy-Monium, Old Funeral, Pantera, Confessor, Solitude (USA-DE), Epidemic, Tiamat, and more…
