Grinder #1 (Chile) Noviembre 1993 (Español)

Grinder #1 (Chile) Noviembre 1993 (Español). Editor: Andrés Padilla

Exciting news from Chile these days. Andrés Padilla, who used to do Violence Zine (Chile) in the late 80’s, and currently editing the long-running Grinder magazine, recently published the book Retrospectiva al Metal Chileno (1983-1993), with a limited edition 12″ LP compilation released by IronBonehead Productions (Ger) that includes rare and old death metal Chilean bands never released on vinyl beforeMore info here http://corvusdiscos.cl/label_retrospectiva.htm

Now he is working on another book called Underground Never Dies! (hardcover, tons of old school flyers and rare pics from cult bands, and interviews with lots of key-members of the UG scene), plus a limited compilation 12″ LP filled with bands of the 80’s, from all over the world. Thrash Metal (US) November, 1990

Thrash Metal  (US) November, 1990, Editor: “Steve Peters”

Here is another ‘non-zine’ rag I found in my collection and, while obviously a national magazine, it nevertheless had some valuable and interesting content, ads, interviews, and features (much like previous additions such as Metal Forces), so I thought it would be cool to add to the archive. While there is attention to the heavy hitters of Exodus, Anthrax, and Testament, there is also a cool LA scene report, Annihilator, Agony Column, Faith No More, Defiance, and some cool ads. For some reason I could not find an issue number and,  I think it had a very limited run, being printed only when the thrash scene was at its high point. Either way…

Disposable Underground #6 (VA, USA) 1993

Disposable Underground #6 (VA, USA) 1993, Editor: “Richard Johnson”

This zine was almost hometown for me, coming out of the Virginia suburbs of Washington DC. At the time Rich was in grind pathfinders ENEMY SOIL, prior to going on to playing in the likes of AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED and DRUGS OF FAITH.  He is called the “grindfather” for a reason, and his early work for the scene was carved out in this long running zine, that can now be found online in downloadable format here, (where you can also find FULL ISSUES dating back to the glory days, including this one…check it out!) Features God Forsaken, Resist, Monstrosity, Sick of it All and more..

Thrashikus #5 (CA, USA) 1992

Thrashikus #5 (CA, USA) 1992: Editor “Victor Hsieh”

This was a cool digest sized zine, packed with excellent interviews, again with many of the bands at the top of their game. Out of San Diego, it included live reviews, an interesting intie with France’s Osmose Productions, and a cover story on underrated death thrashers of the day Goreaphobia. With Brutal Truth, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Entombed, Deadhorse, Epidemic, Nunslaughter, Exhorder, Goreaphobia, Immolation, Exhorder, Gwar, Napalm Death, Immolation, Demise, Incantation, Paradise Lost, Authorize, Demolition Hammer, Morbid Angel, Hexx and more..
