Metal History Through Fanzines

Cryptopsy (CAN)

Nihilistic Holocaust #2 (France) 1998 (en français)

Nihilistic Holocaust #2 (France) 1998. Editor: “Gab” (en français)

Second issue of this French zine focusing on death metal, however this time around the editor switched it to his langue maternelle, with some late-90s interviews/features on Necrophagist (who, to quote Spinal Tap, now reside in the “where are they now” file), the still kicking Quebecois Cryptopsy and Necronomicon, Brazilian’s Krisiun, as well as My Sovereign, Amid Pain, reviews and news. (thx to original scanner and dark legions for sharing).

Master of Brutality, #9 (Netherlands) 1998

Master of Brutality, #9 (Netherlands) 1998. Editor: “Ewald Provoost,” “Martin Dame” and “Theo Van Eekelen”

Ninth issue of this long-running Dutch fanzine, this time adding current Hail of Bullets (then Houwitser) bassist Theo. Features and interviews with Aurora Borealis, Besiege, Cenotaph (TKY), Cornucopia, Malignant Tumor, Sanatorium, Massground, Cryptopsy, the Czech and Slovak scenes, Depression, Mortem (PER), Murder Corporation, Pleurisy, Suppository, TONS of reviews that really illuminate the late 90s underground, ads and more…

Hypnosis #5 (Germany) 1997 (auf Deutsch)

Hypnosis #5 (Germany) 1997, Editors: “Michael” and “Sven”

I am not sure where I got this zine, perhaps on tour in Europe or traveling, perhaps in the mail. I think it was the last from these guys, and this German-language, digest-sized zine was laid out exceptionally well – great type, great organization, everything. So for those who can sprechen zee Deutsch, there is some fun content including interviews with Entombed, Broken Hope, Deeds of Flesh, Cryptopsy, Necrophobic, Frozen Sun, Obituary, Apophis, and a Scene report from Poland. Enjoy.
